Who Really Is College Basketball&#8217;s Best Player?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Jimmer or\u00a0Maya?\u00a0 That Is the\u00a0Burning Question\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3415\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3415\" style=\"width: 296px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Jimmer-Fredette-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3415\" title=\"Jimmer Fredette 2\" src=\"\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Jimmer-Fredette-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"306\" height=\"214\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3415\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jimmer Fredette is a Bob Cousey\/Pete Maravich throw-back clone.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>There is little question that UConn&#8217;s Maya Moore and BYU&#8217;s Jimmer Fredette will soon capture their respective College Player of the Year awards for NCAA women&#8217;s and men&#8217;s basketball.\u00a0 Nobody really comes close to them in terms of their impact on their teams and on the games in which they play.\u00a0\u00a0 Certainly, there are other players in both genders\u00a0which have demonstrated excellent talent this season, but no one else has the tools and puts them to use as consistently as Maya and Jimmer. \u00a0(A smile comes over my face every time\u00a0 I type his name.)<\/p>\n<p>I like Jimmer Fredette.\u00a0 From his quirky name to his runaround-in-circles game, what&#8217;s not to like?\u00a0 He does things that a lot of college basketball players have done before his emergence.\u00a0 He can score.\u00a0 Duh.\u00a0 He can pass.\u00a0 Better than most, I&#8217;d say.\u00a0 He can control a game, as can a lot of players.\u00a0 So, what makes Jimmer special?\u00a0 Style.\u00a0 The kid&#8217;s got some serious style.\u00a0 He is the most unpredictable men&#8217;s college basketball player to come along since Pete Maravich in the 1970&#8217;s.\u00a0 Jimmer is fun to watch because you get the feeling that when comes down the floor\u00a0 and\u00a0pulls off yet another off-balance shot or no-look pass that he&#8217;s as surprised as we are when it works.\u00a0 This will date me, but he is so reminiscent of the legendary Boston Celtics point guard, Bob Cousey, who made his reputation dribbling around and through NBA defenses, popping off behind-the-back passes and sinking pull-up set shots.\u00a0 Yes, I said set shots, it was that long ago.\u00a0 No matter, Jimmer is the top dog this year and if anybody else is given the POY trophy, we should storm the dadgum castle.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\">\n<figure id=\"attachment_3421\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3421\" style=\"width: 302px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Maya-Moore-9.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3421\" title=\"Maya Moore 9\" src=\"\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Maya-Moore-9.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"312\" height=\"214\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3421\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Maya Moore has even surpassed Huskies&#39; legends Lobo, Bird and Taurasi in her storied UConn career.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I love Maya Moore.\u00a0 Jimmer is cool, but Maya is the queen bee of basketball.\u00a0 Is there anything on a basketball floor this kid can&#8217;t do?\u00a0 As the most recent reincarnation of the now standard UConn Ms. Everything, she follows in the rather large footsteps of Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird who could also do everything.\u00a0 Maya is created a legacy which will perhaps take years to surpass.\u00a0 She will win her fourth POY plaque this year after\u00a0pushing, dragging and\u00a0encouraging\u00a0a team through a schedule the Miami Heat would dread.\u00a0 As the Huskies&#8217; undisputable leader during their 90-game winning streak, longest in NCAA history, Maya\u00a0demonstrated a degree of leadership and playing skill which few college players, men or women, can be identified.\u00a0 That the team would finally lose this season to a highly-motivated Stanford team in Palo Alto and then regroup\u00a0and\u00a0eventually regain the nation&#8217;s\u00a0number one ranking is a testament to a lot of influences.\u00a0 Certainly, Geno Auriemma is at the top of that list, but\u00a0were it not for Maya Moore, this particular UConn team would be slugging\u00a0it out\u00a0with the\u00a0plethora of\u00a0also ran women&#8217;s teams across the landscape.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>So, is it Fredette or Moore?\u00a0\u00a0Drum roll, please.\u00a0 I\u00a0would pay good money any day to watch Jimmer get his\u00a0jiggy on.\u00a0 He is a fabulous show.\u00a0 But when it comes\u00a0right down to it, I&#8217;ll take Maya with her abilities, leadership, consistency and career.\u00a0 She&#8217;s one in a million.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jimmer or\u00a0Maya?\u00a0 That Is the\u00a0Burning Question\u00a0 There is little question that UConn&#8217;s Maya Moore and BYU&#8217;s Jimmer Fredette will soon capture their respective College Player of the Year awards for NCAA women&#8217;s and men&#8217;s basketball.\u00a0 Nobody really comes close to them in terms of their impact on their teams and on the games in which &#8230;
