Take Charge of Your Future with Hard Work in the Classroom<\/strong><\/p>\n

Study where you can when you can to improve your GPA and scholarship opportunities.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

There is one semester left this year to impact your GPA.\u00a0 Don’t slack off now.\u00a0 And if you’ve been promising all school year to buckle down on your studies, do it now or suffer the consequences.\u00a0 It’s within your power to make good things happen.\u00a0<\/p>\n

College coaches rarely give full athletic scholarships.\u00a0 They “package” athletes with a combination of athletic, academic and need-based money.\u00a0 But, if your GPA is low, your package will not be as good as it could be.\u00a0 That will mean that you will have to take out more student loans which you will have to repay when you graduate.\u00a0 To minimize the financial burden on yourself, raise your core course GPA.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Core courses are where it all happens academically.\u00a0 PE, basket weaving and other electives may be fun distractions, but in the final analysis, you have to do well in Math, English, History, Science, Foreign Language and other academically focused courses to influence your core GPA.<\/p>\n

Need help doing this?\u00a0 Go to your guidance counselor and teachers.\u00a0 Explain your GPA goals.\u00a0 Ask for their advice, then make a plan and dedicate yourself to following it.\u00a0 Knuckle down.\u00a0 Avoid the same old things which have kept you from reaching your potential.\u00a0 Do it differently.\u00a0 Forget about TV and texting.\u00a0 Put your future first.\u00a0<\/p>\n

College coaches view solid academic performance as a mirror\u00a0image of\u00a0who you are as a person and the type student-athlete you will be in college.\u00a0 Not taking academics seriously will drop you down in their recruiting list.\u00a0 Good scores, however, could give you more\u00a0scholarship offers than you thought\u00a0possible.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Time\u00a0is winding down.\u00a0\u00a0Grab hold of your future with both hands and steer it toward success.\u00a0\u00a0Take your\u00a0 books home, study\u00a0at every opportunity and give yourself the\u00a0additional chances other less focused athletes will miss out on.\u00a0 It’s your time, as they say.\u00a0 Put your studies on the front burner and\u00a0push hard to get the grade point average you know is there for you if you only\u00a0give it your best effort.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
