Focus on Your Ultimate Objective Until You Find “It”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Assume nothing as you search for everything you want in a college.\u00a0 Far too often high school prospects take the word and opinion of others about which schools and programs are excellent, good, okay or unacceptable.\u00a0 Those opinions are based on their unique perspectives, not yours.\u00a0\u00a0The things which may\u00a0be important to someone else, may\u00a0in fact have no real bearing on\u00a0your priorities, needs and objectives.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Consider all options which present themselves to you, even if the first school you visit or coach you talk to appears to be ideal.\u00a0 Remember that every college and coach\u00a0is putting their best foot forward in\u00a0an attempt to\u00a0lure you to their campus for\u00a0four years.\u00a0 It’s their obligation and main goal.\u00a0 Beyond all the smiles and promises, real life exists and that is where you\u00a0will live,\u00a0study and play sports.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

From the moment you arrive on a campus, you will have a gut reaction.\u00a0 That feeling will grow, one way or the other, throughout your visit and meetings with school officials.\u00a0 Pay attention.\u00a0 Set aside all the hoopla and back patting.\u00a0 Look deeper into yourself\u00a0because this is one of the most important decisions of your life.\u00a0\u00a0 Note the red flags as well as\u00a0all the\u00a0highlights of your stay.\u00a0\u00a0Leave nothing to\u00a0chance.\u00a0\u00a0Turn over every stone.\u00a0\u00a0Ask meaningful questions.\u00a0 Listen.\u00a0 And ask yourself, “Is this where I want to be?”\u00a0<\/p>\n

There is a very good reason that we read about college freshmen and sophomores transferring\u00a0from one college\u00a0to another — there were most likely certain, uncomfortable things about the school, the coach or the team which were discounted,\u00a0overlooked or ignored for the sake of momentary enthusiasm and relief at having the decision behind them.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mistakes in decision making can happen, but if you work hard on the front end of the process, you can\u00a0avoid making a commitment which you know instinctively is not really right for you.\u00a0 Then there is this:\u00a0\u00a0the recruiting process can be tiring and overwhelming.\u00a0 But, like a\u00a0tough series of pre-season workouts and practices, to be a winner you must fight through the fatigue and remain focused on your objective.\u00a0<\/p>\n
