Facing True Life Can Be Too Much for the\u00a0Overindulged <\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Every day our local newspaper posts digest versions of college athletic department press releases.\u00a0 These little ditties, about a sentence in length, throw news out to us freakish sports nuts who want to know a little bit about everything going on without being bothered with all the minutia.\u00a0 In fact, I’ll often go to that tiny feature before delving into the next\u00a0story about why Carmelo doesn’t want to tarnish his image or how Roy Williams will right the Tarheel ship with no talent to speak of on the roster.\u00a0 Enough already.\u00a0 The thing is, have you noticed all the transfers\u00a0at big time college programs around the country in the major sports?\u00a0 It’s alarming.\u00a0 Nearly every day another kid is transferring.\u00a0 This is the middle of the year for crying out loud\u00a0and most of the transfers are freshmen and sophomores!\u00a0 From this end of the keyboard, all this coming and going\u00a0smacks of bad decisions, recruiting smoke and mirrors as well as\u00a0damaged egos.\u00a0\u00a0Kids who\u00a0were stars in high school get to the\u00a0premier stage and discover they are\u00a0no longer the big dog with the coach, teammates and around campus.\u00a0 Earning those\u00a0stripes all over again\u00a0just doesn’t appeal to some, so off they run to\u00a0wherever hoping to recapture bygone glory while momma, daddy and Aunt Tom pack the minivan.\u00a0 Okay, personality conflicts and coaching changes can and do occur, but all that should have been dealt with during the recruiting process before ink ever had a chance to hit the NLI.\u00a0 Well,\u00a0I’ve got breaking news\u00a0 — you ain’t in high school no more.\u00a0 It’s time to line up and do all the sprints, carry the\u00a0upper classmen’s duffle bags, get your bad self out of bed, go to class, and be responsible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
