{"id":2307,"date":"2010-12-15T15:50:37","date_gmt":"2010-12-15T21:50:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/\/?p=2307"},"modified":"2010-12-15T15:50:37","modified_gmt":"2010-12-15T21:50:37","slug":"doug-wilmot-the-ultimate-team-player","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsr-inc.com\/scouting-news\/doug-wilmot-the-ultimate-team-player\/","title":{"rendered":"Doug Wilmot, the Ultimate Team Player"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;amp; font-size: 10pt;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Doug-Wilmot3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2326\" title=\"Doug Wilmot\" src=\"\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Doug-Wilmot3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"180\" height=\"211\" \/><\/a>Safety Finds Ways to Contribute After Repeat Injury<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;amp; font-size: 10pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;amp; font-size: 10pt;\">When <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenville.edu\/athletics\/athlete_detail.dot?id=175735\">Doug Wilmot<\/a> arrived at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenville.edu\/\">Greenville College (IL)<\/a> from Spruce Creek High (FL) in the summer of 2009, he carried on his shoulders no great expectations from the football staff \u2013 only his own dreams of playing at the college level.\u00a0 He didn&#8217;t enter as a blue chip prospect with inflated stats or extraordinary physical abilities.\u00a0 He wasn&#8217;t promised a starting position, nor for that matter a roster spot.\u00a0 Yet, the feisty safety from Daytona, FL, quickly demonstrated\u00a0to the Greenville coaches what heart and hard work can accomplish, even if you are a freshman far\u00a0away from home.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;amp; font-size: 10pt;\">Following that first summer practice in which he began as the fourth-team safety, Doug was\u00a0given\u00a0one of the team&#8217;s two starting\u00a0spots as the 2009 season kicked off.\u00a0 That&#8217;s where Doug&#8217;s story took a tragic turn.\u00a0 He suffered a\u00a0season-ending knee injury which put him out of action early on.\u00a0 So early, in fact, that the team was\u00a0permitted by the NCAA\u00a0to\u00a0declare him a redshirt.\u00a0\u00a0Moreover, his injury was so severe that Doug was forced to return home\u00a0in Florida to recuperate.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;amp; font-size: 10pt;\">This\u00a0season Doug once again came to\u00a0summer practice with a singular goal in mind \u2013 to regain his\u00a0first string \u00a0position.\u00a0\u00a0By the time the initial 2010 game rolled around, he was again named\u00a0one of the team&#8217;s starting safeties.\u00a0 But, as luck would have it, in his first game\u00a0back, Doug once\u00a0more heard\u00a0a\u00a0familiar crunch in his knee.\u00a0\u00a0He knew immediately what it meant \u2013 his ACL was damaged again and he would be out for the season.\u00a0 This time, though, Doug refused to leave school\u00a0for rehab.\u00a0 Being a Panther simply meant too much to Doug.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;amp; font-size: 10pt;\">End of story?\u00a0 Not quite.\u00a0\u00a0You see, Doug Wilmot\u00a0loves Greenville football more than just about anything else and while other injured players typically might fade into the background, if not disappear altogether, Doug&#8217;s\u00a0involvement with the\u00a0squad\u00a0never wavered.\u00a0 In an interview with the Daytona Beach News-Journal, Panthers defensive backs coach, P.J.
