{"id":2294,"date":"2010-12-15T15:48:44","date_gmt":"2010-12-15T21:48:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/\/?p=2294"},"modified":"2010-12-15T15:48:44","modified_gmt":"2010-12-15T21:48:44","slug":"landry-jones-receives-honorable-mention-all-america-accolade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsr-inc.com\/scouting-news\/landry-jones-receives-honorable-mention-all-america-accolade\/","title":{"rendered":"Landry Jones Receives Honorable Mention All-America Accolade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Landry-Jones-15.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2297\" title=\"Landry Jones 15\" src=\"\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Landry-Jones-15.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"136\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a>With So Many Quality QB&#8217;s in the Spotlight, Landry Awaits His Turn<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As Auburn&#8217;s Cam Newton and Stanford&#8217;s Andrew Luck dueled all season to see who would be named the\u00a0nation&#8217;s top quarterback, former <a href=\"http:\/\/www.soonersports.com\/sports\/m-footbl\/spec-rel\/120710aaa.html\"><strong>NSR<\/strong> prospect and <strong>Oklahoma sophomore signal caller and Sammy Baugh Trophy recipient,\u00a0Landry Jones<\/strong><\/a>, went about his business week after week, putting up impressive numbers and taking the Sooners to the Big 12 Championship.\u00a0\u00a0In any other year, Landry&#8217;s efforts probably would have translated into serious First Team All-America consideration.\u00a0 But, the life of an NCAA top-tier QB in today&#8217;s media happy world can be humbling.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Just ask Arkansas&#8217; Ryan Mallet who\u00a0was\u00a0very high on the Heisman Trophy watch list\u00a0until in Week Four of the season he threw two fourth quarter interceptions against then top-ranked Alabama fueling the Crimson Tide&#8217;s comeback win.\u00a0 From then on, even though Mallett was exceptional, his name was never again\u00a0mentioned with the top QB contenders Newton, Luck,\u00a0Boise State&#8217;s\u00a0Kellen Moore and TCU&#8217;s Andy Dalton.\u00a0 For Mallett, a redshirt junior, his\u00a0chances to capture\u00a0any of the significant post season accolades ended with those two INT&#8217;s.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Newton&#8217;s off-the-field troubles\u00a0in the end may have worked in his favor with reporters and other vote-holding onlookers.\u00a0\u00a0His name was in the headlines practically every day since early October\u00a0attached to a pay-for-play recruiting scandal involving his father, Cecil, and a Mississippi State University alumnus.\u00a0\u00a0Cam&#8217;s eligibility status was talked about ad nausea,\u00a0so watching him play every\u00a0Saturday\u00a0was\u00a0similar to standing trackside while anticipating a train wreck \u2013 you hated to see it happen, but you just couldn&#8217;t look away.\u00a0\u00a0By the time the NCAA panel made its decision in his favor, practically everyone in the country had seen him play numerous times.\u00a0 And, let&#8217;s face, the kid is extremely impressive on the football field.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Landry-Jones-HS-shot1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2298\" title=\"Landry Jones H&amp;S shot\" src=\"\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Landry-Jones-HS-shot1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"105\" height=\"145\" \/><\/a>Just outside all the ruckus was an ever-improving Landry whose arm and leadership continued to\u00a0lift\u00a0OU toward achieving their goal of capturing the Big 12 title.\u00a0\u00a0Sooner Head\u00a0Coach Bob Stoops hasn&#8217;t always been one of Landry&#8217;s greatest or most vocal fans, but as the year progressed and\u00a0Jones became more adept\u00a0in the art of quarterbacking, Stoops warmed up more to the New Mexico native.\u00a0 In a post game interview\u00a0following OU&#8217;s seesaw battle with\u00a0in-state rival Oklahoma State in late November,\u00a0Stoops\u00a0saw some light ahead for his\u00a0second-year QB.\u00a0 \u201cYou watch some of the great quarterbacks \u2014 the Joe Montanas and those guys \u2014 they\u2019ll have bad days and then they\u2019ll have a fourth quarter that wins the game and that\u2019s all anybody talks about.\u00a0 The important thing is to stay after it.\u00a0 You\u2019re still going to have opportunities to make your plays. \u00a0And maybe, (Landry\u2019s) getting that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Like the Chicago Cubs mantra, there&#8217;s always next year!\u00a0 In the case of Landry Jones, he&#8217;s certain to gain more attention next football season, albeit we expect it to be the right kind \u2013 you know, the type of attention which wins awards for all the right reasons and without the train wreck scenario.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With So Many Quality QB&#8217;s in the Spotlight, Landry Awaits His Turn As Auburn&#8217;s Cam Newton and Stanford&#8217;s Andrew Luck dueled all season to see who would be named the\u00a0nation&#8217;s top quarterback, former NSR prospect and Oklahoma sophomore signal caller and Sammy Baugh Trophy recipient,\u00a0Landry Jones, went about his business week after week, putting up &#8230;
