{"id":2281,"date":"2010-12-16T14:38:41","date_gmt":"2010-12-16T20:38:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/\/?p=2281"},"modified":"2010-12-16T14:38:41","modified_gmt":"2010-12-16T20:38:41","slug":"big-ten-brings-in-nebraska-to-bump-membership-to-12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsr-inc.com\/scouting-news\/big-ten-brings-in-nebraska-to-bump-membership-to-12\/","title":{"rendered":"Big Ten Brings in Nebraska to Bump Membership to 12"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Big-ten1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2302\" title=\"Big ten\" src=\"\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Big-ten1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"230\" height=\"205\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Conference Sticks with Longtime Name, but Changes Logo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Big Ten now has twelve\u00a0members instead of eleven, but since there is already a Big 12, the Big Ten\u00a0which had eleven\u00a0schools\u00a0over the last ten years\u00a0will remain\u00a0the Big Ten although they have twelve schools instead of either eleven or ten.\u00a0 Got that?\u00a0\u00a0It&#8217;s called the Big Time, sports fans, so stay alert.<\/p>\n<p>Actually, we look forward to next\u00a0year, or is it the year after (who can\u00a0keep up?), when the Big Ten will have a conference\u00a0championship game\u00a0to tie up in a neat bow the\u00a0conference football title and\u00a0determine which member\u00a0school will represent the Big Ten in the Rose Bowl, unless of course that team is in\u00a0the BCS championship game which would\u00a0put another Big Ten team in the Rose Bowl because the BCS carries more weight, although it&#8217;s\u00a0an independent entity, detached from the Big Ten&#8217;s governing\u00a0body, the NCAA, which is staying out of the whole thing.\u00a0 Whew!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Back to something\u00a0sane we can more sensibly deal with which is the true excitement newcomer Nebraska brings to the Big\u00a0Ten.\u00a0 A powerhouse in nearly every\u00a0sport they fund, no time will pass before the Huskers have created lasting\u00a0and intense rivalries with neighboring Iowa, Minnesota\u00a0and Illinois, not to mention the other great\u00a0battles which will occur when\u00a0The Big Red heads to Columbus, Madison,\u00a0Ann Arbor,\u00a0East Lansing and\u00a0Western PA.\u00a0 Yummy!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Outside of football, the new alignment will also establish arguably the top Division I volleyball conference in the country.\u00a0 A legitimate\u00a0Top Five program for a number of years, the Lady Huskers will join Penn State, Illinois and Ohio State as national powers with the other Big Ten programs not lagging far behind.\u00a0 Other sports will benefit as well which bodes just fine for Midwesterners looking for yet another reason to cheer.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>All in all, while we regret the impact\u00a0Nebraska&#8217;s move will have on the Big 12, and will certainly miss the annual Husker-Sooner battles, nothing else,\u00a0save\u00a0perhaps Notre Dame finally caving in to join the conference, could have\u00a0happened which would have produced a\u00a0more\u00a0positive outcome for the Big Ten.\u00a0 And it sets up nicely for\u00a0the next phase of college athletics where the newly formed Super Conferences rule the college landscape on an even larger scale.\u00a0\u00a0As the nation&#8217;s oldest Division I conference, the Big Ten is boldly stepping out of its comfort zone to compete with the dynamic SEC, the basketball-baseball-soccer-field hockey-heavy ACC, and the\u00a0re-shuffled PAC 10 which, by the way, will soon become the Pac 12.\u00a0\u00a0Oh, and the Big 12?\u00a0 It has eleven members.\u00a0 Here we go again!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Conference Sticks with Longtime Name, but Changes Logo The Big Ten now has twelve\u00a0members instead of eleven, but since there is already a Big 12, the Big Ten\u00a0which had eleven\u00a0schools\u00a0over the last ten years\u00a0will remain\u00a0the Big Ten although they have twelve schools instead of either eleven or ten.\u00a0 Got that?\u00a0\u00a0It&#8217;s called the Big Time, sports &#8230;
