the relentless pursuit to be better off today than we were yesterday.\u00a0 It&#8217;s the American Way.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In recruiting, though, bigger does not always translate as better.\u00a0 After 30 years of working with high school prospects and college coaches, we know that better refers to fit &#8212; that is, which college campus, philosophical approach to life, facilities, amenities, cafeteria food, distance from home, social offerings, coaching style and team makeup.\u00a0 Those are the things which determine fit.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Transferring from one school to another is a disruptive annoyance.\u00a0 Yet, it happens far too frequently to college athletes.\u00a0 The biggest reason for a student-athlete transferring?\u00a0\u00a0Fit, as in bad.\u00a0 Second?\u00a0 Money, as in not enough.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The senior year of high school are\u00a0heady days for prospects and parents.\u00a0 but their thinking can get all screwed up in so many ways.\u00a0 The kids give too\u00a0much\u00a0credence to what everybody around\u00a0them\u00a0says about this school or that school while their parents are focused on making their youngster&#8217;s first year away from home as perfect as possible.\u00a0 Every once in\u00a0awhile it all works out and everybody&#8217;s happy.\u00a0 But, too many times it all crashes and burns\u00a0after about\u00a0three weeks into the college experience when the kid begins to\u00a0realize something&#8217;s not right.\u00a0 Well, it&#8217;s that &#8220;thing&#8221; that&#8217;s not right?\u00a0 It&#8217;s\u00a0the fit and it can&#8217;t be fixed by mom and dad during a weekend of\u00a0soul searching\u00a0discussions at home, or a one-on-one with the coach.\u00a0 The fit&#8217;s just not right and the kid knows it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Solution?\u00a0 As difficult as it is to take emotional momentum out of the recruiting process, you&#8217;ve got to try.\u00a0\u00a0All the fluff and stuff have to be\u00a0set aside when making the\u00a0decision which\u00a0will in many ways impact the remainder of\u00a0your life.\u00a0 Being dissatisfied with the college experience can all but ruin an entire year of\u00a0a prospect&#8217;s life, not to mention a family&#8217;s.\u00a0 It&#8217;s\u00a0not always avoidable, but usually it can be\u00a0predicted with\u00a0a fairly easy litmus test which\u00a0revolves around one word &#8212;\u00a0happy.\u00a0 As in:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Are you happy with the coach?<\/li>\n<li>Are you happy with the team?<\/li>\n<li>Are you happy with the campus?<\/li>\n<li>Are you happy with the distance the campus is from home?<\/li>\n<li>Are you happy with the athletic facilities?<\/li>\n<li>Are you happy with the cafeteria food?<\/li>\n<li>Are you happy with the academic reputation of the school, especially in the area you want to major in?<\/li>\n<li>Are you happy with the academic\u00a0classrooms and buildings?<\/li>\n<li>Are you happy with the\u00a0school&#8217;s philosophical approach toward education and the lifestyle it promotes?<\/li>\n<li>Are you happy with the social activities the school offers students?<\/li>\n<li>Are you happy with the amount of out-of-pocket money you have to spend to attend this college?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Answer these questions, honestly.\u00a0 Take away other external factors such as if your friends are going to school there or will attend a school nearby.\u00a0 Take away the level of competition.\u00a0 Yes, really.\u00a0 Remove the hype the coaches tell you.\u00a0\u00a0Get down to\u00a0basics of what will make you happy.\u00a0 When you do this, your chances of being successful will be much more in your favor.\u00a0 Do this for yourself.\u00a0 Do it for your family.\u00a0\u00a0You&#8217;ll be much happier with your decision in the end.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Being Happy is More Essential Than in Which Division You Play In America, our competitive nature is constantly shoving us upward.\u00a0 Play on a better team&#8230;find a better coach&#8230;make better grades&#8230;find a better job&#8230;make more money&#8230;live in a bigger house&#8230;buy better equipment.\u00a0 In sports,\u00a0those influences are undeniable, too\u00a0&#8212;
