{"id":1990,"date":"2010-11-19T09:26:23","date_gmt":"2010-11-19T15:26:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/\/?p=1990"},"modified":"2017-09-06T11:24:32","modified_gmt":"2017-09-06T16:24:32","slug":"early-signing-period-is-exciting-but-recruiting-season-far-from-over","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsr-inc.com\/scouting-news\/early-signing-period-is-exciting-but-recruiting-season-far-from-over\/","title":{"rendered":"Early Signing Period is Exciting, but the Recruiting Season is Far from Over"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Unsigned Seniors Don&#8217;t Panic, There&#8217;s Still Time to Connect with Coaches<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\">\n<p>According to Chuck Wynne,\u00a0the NCAA&#8217;s Director of Communication Strategy, approximately 36,000 seniors will sign National Letters of Intent (NLI) this school year.\u00a0 Nearly 11,000 of those signees have inked NLI&#8217;s during the\u00a0Early Signing\u00a0Period (ESP) this past week or about 31%.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>That&#8217;s good news for the thousands of prospects who, when seeing and reading about other prospects around their area and the country signing NLI&#8217;s and posing for\u00a0the media following their signing ceremonies, tend to panic while wondering if their opportunity to secure a scholarship has passed.\u00a0 Nothing could be\u00a0further from the truth.<\/p>\n<p>Many college coaches do indeed attempt\u00a0to sign their top recruits during the ESP.\u00a0 They want to put the process and\u00a0pressure behind them and concentrate on their current team and the next recruiting class.\u00a0 But it is, in fact, rare to see a coach sign an entire recruiting class during the ESP.<\/p>\n<p>Things happen.\u00a0 Prospects expected to sign sometimes change their minds.\u00a0 Some kids choose to wait until the Late Signing\u00a0Period to see if additional offers surface.\u00a0\u00a0 Coaches\u00a0make offers to higher level prospects, which they have no realistic chance of signing.\u00a0 And, some coaches simply prefer only to sign a few recruits during the ESP.\u00a0 They know from experience there will be &#8220;floaters&#8221; available.\u00a0 These\u00a0are the kids who believed that offers from their favorite schools would materialize but didn&#8217;t,\u00a0leaving the kids hanging onto a\u00a0dream and a prayer\u00a0without other options.\u00a0\u00a0In short,\u00a0nearly every college team in America has\u00a0roster openings\u00a0following the ESP.<\/p>\n<p>Then there are the real life\u00a0surprises which inevitably\u00a0occur to a team.\u00a0 These are the out-of-the-blue things no one expects, or hopes will befall a player, coach, and team.\u00a0\u00a0Check out a few of these surprises which happen every year:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Academic casualties<\/li>\n<li>Performance issues<\/li>\n<li>Attitude problems<\/li>\n<li>Debilitating injuries<\/li>\n<li>Personality conflicts<\/li>\n<li>Financial problems<\/li>\n<li>Transfers<\/li>\n<li>Coaching changes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Going by NCAA numbers alone, nearly 70 percent of all athlete&#8217;s sign their NLI&#8217;s during the Late Signing Period.\u00a0 Nervous prospects, at ease.\u00a0 There is time to spare, and opportunities await.\u00a0 It&#8217;s what you do with that time which\u00a0is the key to your future.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some strategy points for seniors to consider:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you are not receiving any attention from college coaches, you have three choices:\u00a0 A) Start a letter writing, email, and phone call campaign at once.\u00a0 Contact every college in your region, not just in your area.\u00a0 Have your complete resume and video ready to send to any coach who shows you interest.\u00a0 Know that the availability of video footage is the most important element in the initial recruiting phase.\u00a0 B) Ask your high school or club coach to go to work on your behalf.\u00a0 C) Contact a professional scouting and recruiting organization (<a href=\"www.nsr-inc.com\">National Scouting Report<\/a>) to start an aggressive promotional campaign for you.<\/li>\n<li>Contact\u00a0every college coach who sent you a questionnaire over the past three years.\u00a0 Ask point-blank\u00a0if he or she still has\u00a0an opportunity available for you.\u00a0\u00a0If so, get your profile and\u00a0current video in their hands ASAP.<\/li>\n<li>Give only cursory credence to what you may have heard about any college coach or program, positive or negative.\u00a0\u00a0You are uniquely qualified to determine which college situation is right for you.\u00a0\u00a0The experiences of others are their life lessons, not yours.\u00a0 If a college coach has an interest in recruiting you, forget the flag raisers and naysayers.\u00a0 Explore that opportunity with an open mind.\u00a0 It could be the best school and situation for you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Unsigned Seniors Don&#8217;t Panic, There&#8217;s Still Time to Connect with Coaches According to Chuck Wynne,\u00a0the NCAA&#8217;s Director of Communication Strategy, approximately 36,000 seniors will sign National Letters of Intent (NLI) this school year.\u00a0 Nearly 11,000 of those signees have inked NLI&#8217;s during the\u00a0Early Signing\u00a0Period (ESP) this past week or about 31%.
