Senior Goal Keeper Stars on Field and in Classroom<\/p>\n

Four years ago, Amanda Smith<\/strong><\/a> and her family heard from a neighbor in Avon, Conn. about Dan Hammond.<\/strong>\u00a0 As the Area Director for NSR<\/strong> in Connecticut, Dan had interviewed Amanda’s next door friend a month earlier.\u00a0 Already having been accepted on\u00a0her academic record\u00a0at Boston College, Penn, Delaware, Holy Cross and Colgate, Amanda wanted more, but it was late in her senior year.\u00a0 Very late.<\/p>\n

A prep\u00a0All-State performer in field hockey,\u00a0her goal was to earn a nursing degree and play her sport at the highest level.\u00a0 But, there was a hitch.\u00a0 Her high school coach\u00a0told\u00a0Amanda that it would be impossible for\u00a0her to take on the academic grind in her major while simultaneoulsy\u00a0meeting the demands of Division I\u00a0sports.\u00a0 Oh, and did we mention that it was very late for a senior to\u00a0dive into the recruiting process?<\/p>\n

Undaunted by her coach’s\u00a0advice, Amanda and her parents contacted Dan and set up an interview.\u00a0 After learning\u00a0how NSR could expose her to every field hockey program in America which\u00a0offered nursing, the Smith’s signed\u00a0on.\u00a0\u00a0Within days, Dan had spoken about Amanda to practically every Division I program in the Northeast with nursing majors.<\/p>\n

Fast forward and Amanda would sign with Boston Unversity<\/a> and the “impossible” challenge was laid out before her.\u00a0 Today, four years later, Amanda not only has become one of the top goal keepers in the America East Conference<\/a>, but she has maintained a\u00a0perfect 4.0 GPA in BU’s traditionally tough academic environment.<\/p>\n

In a recent note from Dan Hammonds, he\u00a0wrote, “I received a letter last week from the Smith’s.\u00a0\u00a0[Amanda] is the senior starting goal keeper for the BU terriers and has been for two years.\u00a0 She will graduate this year with\u00a0a pre-nursing degree and will stay on to finish at BU while being the grad assisitant and\u00a0earning her nursing\u00a0degree.”<\/p>\n

NSR<\/strong> salutes Amanda Smith who had the courage to\u00a0not only pursue her\u00a0life’s goals, but to acheive them with determination and grace.\u00a0\u00a0 Nice going, Amanda.\u00a0 All of us at NSR<\/strong> are very proud of you and your accomplishments.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
