West Virginia Star Tennis Player Shares Her\u00a0Journey<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Dave Johnson, <\/strong>NSR’s Northeast Florida Area Director, immediately saw the extraordinary promise in\u00a0Ashley Pilsbury<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0 A tennis “lifer,”\u00a0Ashley came by her talent honestly.\u00a0 Her dad, Eliot, was an accomplished tennis pro, at one point being ranked No. 22 in world singles.\u00a0\u00a0Later, in what would eventually become an indelible\u00a0influence on Ashley, Eliot became a tennis teaching pro in Charleston, WV, for 32 years before moving\u00a0his family to Florida.<\/p>\n

In an article published for the West Virginia Mountaineer<\/em> and written by Julie Brown for MSNsportsNET.com, Ashley said, \u201cFor as long as I can remember I\u2019ve always played tennis.\u00a0 From the time I could walk, I had a racket in my hand. My father and I would play ping-pong and use toy tennis rackets to play with balloons.\u00a0 By the time I was six or seven, I was playing in my first tournament.\u201d\u00a0 Her brother, Dane, was also instrumental in her growth as a tennis player.\u00a0 An accomplished player in his own right, Dane and Ashley would use each other as practice partners as well as play mixed doubles in tournaments.<\/p>\n

After a tremendous four-year career at\u00a0Spruce Creek High School in Port Orange, Fla. Ashley was inducted into the Spruce Creek High School Hall of Fame.\u00a0 When it came time for\u00a0Ashley to pursue a collegiate career, being a West Virginia Mountaineer was at the top of her list.<\/p>\n

Johnson said, “While Ashley’s heart was drawing her back to West Virginia, I believe that all the attention she received from colleges around the country through NSR’s promotional program and Web site helped her to\u00a0experience other options and gauge\u00a0whether or not West Virginia was where she belonged.\u00a0 In the end, she decided that it was.”<\/p>\n

Last year in Morgantown,\u00a0Ashley was the only member of the tennis team to record 30 wins, was named the team\u2019s most valuable player, and she also had a great year academically being named a BIG EAST Academic All-Star and earning a spot on the West Virginia Athletic Director\u2019s Academic Honor Roll.<\/p>\n

It’s student-athletes such as\u00a0 Ashley Pilsbury that continue to build NSR’s reputation as the world’s top high scouting and college recruiting service.\u00a0 Her exceptional athletic talent and academic dedication make her the quintessential NSR alumnus.\u00a0 We congratulate Ashley on her accomplishments and wish her\u00a0all the best for her senior year and beyond.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
