practice, workouts, meetings, video sessions &#8212; requiring time, commitment and parental involvement.\u00a0\u00a0Sports give kids a built-in family of friends and parents where they can feel safe and appreciated.\u00a0Instead of running around untethered with unmotivated kids, they are engaged\u00a0in a goal-driven environment where the expectations are lofty and the consequences are meaningful.\u00a0 There are few other options available which offer these\u00a0personal growth opportunities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sports involvement teaches our kids:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Organizational skills<\/li>\n<li>Social interaction and\u00a0cooperation\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Respect for authority<\/li>\n<li>The value of team work<\/li>\n<li>The link between hard work and success<\/li>\n<li>How to win and lose gracefully<\/li>\n<li>Goal setting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Yes, there is no doubt that some people are overly obsessed with sports, but in the overall\u00a0perspective our kids are still far better off dealing with\u00a0the consequences of sports obsession than they\u00a0are if the alternative includes coping with\u00a0drugs, alcohol, gang membership\u00a0or truancy.\u00a0 In other words, in the worst of sports scenarios, our children are more likely to come out of sports involvement with more useable life skills and more well adjusted than if they sit at home playing video games, bored to the point of dreaming up destructive things to do.\u00a0 When kids are on the field or on the\u00a0court and their parents are in the stands cheering them on, the kids have a sense of inclusion, purpose and pride.\u00a0 Competition,\u00a0teamwork, effort, sweat, support &#8212;
