But if we\u2019re being honest, the real wishlist for a high school athlete doesn\u2019t come in a box under the tree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It comes in four phases\u2014and each one matters just as much as the next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Recruiting doesn\u2019t skip steps, and Santa doesn\u2019t deliver Phase 4 without the work of Phases 1\u20133. Let\u2019s break down the real recruiting wishlist every athlete should understand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wishlist Item #1: Identification<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI want to be seen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n This is where recruiting actually starts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Before offers, visits, or phone calls, an athlete must be identified. That means:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Identification doesn\u2019t happen by accident. It happens through verified exposure. Many athletes ask for offers for Christmas\u2014but what they really need first is visibility. If a coach hasn\u2019t seen you, they can\u2019t recruit you. Simply attending showcases, ID camps and tournaments doesn\u2019t mean that you have been identified. <\/p>\n\n\n\n This is the foundation. No identification = no recruiting process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Wishlist Item #2: Evaluation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI want them to really watch me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Once a coach knows who you are, the next wish is evaluation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This is where coaches dig deeper:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Evaluation takes time. They are the result of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n When an offer comes, it\u2019s not luck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It\u2019s validation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It means a program has decided:<\/p>\n\n\n\n And the best offers\u2014the right offers\u2014come when an athlete doesn\u2019t delay or rush the process, skip steps, or chase logos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Don\u2019t Wish\u2014Prepare<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The recruiting process isn\u2019t magic, and it isn\u2019t instant. Christmas morning only comes after months\u2014sometimes years\u2014of preparation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So as athletes look toward the new year, the real question isn\u2019t:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWhy don\u2019t I have an offer yet?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n It\u2019s:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWhich phase am I in\u2014and am I doing everything I can to earn the next one?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Your Next Step: Get Evaluated by a Scout<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n If you want to move from wishing to progressing, the most important step is getting a trusted, honest evaluation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A qualified scout can:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Most athletes don\u2019t fail in recruiting because they aren\u2019t good enough\u2014they fail because they don\u2019t get accurate feedback early enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Before the next recruiting season begins, put clarity at the top of your wishlist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Get evaluated. Get informed.
