The late, Coach John Wooden (former Men\u2019s Basketball Coach at UCLA) was not only a winner, he was one of the best at \u201cpersonal development\u201d. He knew it was \u201cpeople\u201d who would help him achieve his goals.<\/p>\n
Whether people will admit it or not\u2026 most are starving for someone to break out of the pack and truly lead! To be a truly great leader, you have to believe in a set of values or \u201cpersonal code of conduct\u201d. Over the years, the values Coach Wooden\u2019s father instilled in him became what is now known as the coach\u2019s \u201cPyramid of Success\u201d.<\/p>\n
Each and every block of the pyramid is important, but what Coach Wooden decided to place at the very top was \u201cCompetitive Greatness\u201d.<\/p>\n
Coach Wooden\u2019s definition of Competitive Greatness – \u201cPerform at your best when your best is required. Your best is required each day.\u201d<\/p>\n
This sounds so simple, doesn\u2019t it? It\u2019s simple, but not easy to achieve without the right mindset. The reason it\u2019s not easy is that every day you have to make a conscious decision whether or not you will perform at your best. If each member of the team performs at his or her best, then success will be achieved.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, most people want to take it easy and not be held accountable for their performance. It\u2019s true they may give 100% effort two, three, four, or even five days a week, but not seven. That\u2019s not 100% effort; it\u2019s not even 80% \u2013 it\u2019s 71%.<\/p>\n
How do you get to 100%? Or better yet, how do you get from 70% to 80%?<\/p>\n
It starts when you wake up each morning. Decide at that very moment, \u201cWhen I lay my head down on my pillow tonight, I want to know that I\u2019ve given everything I had TODAY!\u201d<\/p>\n
It\u2019s a step-by-step, moment-by-moment, one day at a time process.<\/p>\n
Competitive Greatness isn\u2019t just for sports, it\u2019s for everything we do. It should top our \u201cPyramid of Success\u201d!<\/p>\n
