Our observation antennae are always on high alert. We scout, watch and communicate with more young athletes than most people do in a lifetime. It’s what we do.

We do this because each National Scouting Report prospect is our link to college coaches. They, the prospects, carry our good name and well-earned reputation onto college campuses and team rosters. So, before we present prospects to college coaches, we verify that each athlete is worthy of being called an NSR prospect.

Regardless of your sport, you have to demonstrate passion or you will not be recruited.

And what is at the very essence of the kids we want to enroll and represent? Passion.

The process of discovering passionate athletes is what turns our world as NSR college scouts. It is our passion.

Rarely can someone do any job really well without passion. Practically anyone can go through the motions and finish a task. They can even be so used to it that their competency and efficiency climb. But an absence of passion means that they never genuinely connect with the work.

Similarly, young athletes reach their goals more often when they have identified the thing that truly turns their world.

We see it in athletes who have the talent to be exceptional prospects, but whose hearts are just not in it. Grouse all we want, but if a kid is not into it, getting him or her to turn on the light because we want them to is like trying to blow a bubble in a windstorm.

That being the case, how do you, the parent, get to the essence of your kid’s passion? Well, you might try asking. Assuming he or she shares your perspective frequently puts parents and young athletes on diverse mental tracks.

Oh, I’m not referring to five-year-olds in t-ball, or six-year-olds in flag football or seven-year-olds shooting hoops in the driveway. This is all about athletes who realistically understand what the future could hold for them. They come to the conclusion that to reach their goal, they must work harder than other kids and keep their sights fixed on the end game.

To get to that point, a young athlete needs full exposure to the other things they like a lot. Opening them to other options allows them to identify early on what they are passionate about. When this happens, kids can decide on what is important to them and what they want to spend their time and efforts doing and pursuing.

That is when passion takes hold of a young person and helps to catapult them forward to new horizons.

Passion in life is one of the treasures of living more fully. When young athletes choose to chase the dream of being a college athlete, their focus is clearer, their enthusiasm is higher and their goals are suddenly more reachable.

PICKS FOR YOU

5 Bad Habits That Can Turn Off College Coaches

3 Mistakes No High School Athlete Can Afford To Make

Warning: Parents Should Not Play Waiting Game

D1-itis… The Dreaded Recruiting Disease

Prospects, find what turns your world and you will discover true passion.
