Phase 2 of NSR’s state-of-the-art, interactive portal system will add four promotional tools — regional, brochure, video and DVD – that will help prospects eliminate paperwork and speed up interaction with college coaches.

Instead of filling out paper forms, prospects will be able to compile and submit lists of targeted colleges on their dashboards; know when to do it; how often to do it; and when everything has been done. That includes picking regions, schools and dates for regional searches; schools and dates for annual brochure mailings; schools and dates for emailed video links; and schools and dates for DVD mailings.

Alan Parham, NSR’s compliance officer, reviewed the 26 NCAA Division I rules changes that will be implemented in 2016-17, most notably the raising of the minimum grade-point average from 2.0 to 2.3. NCAA Division II will raise its minimum GPA from 2.0 to 2.2, beginning Aug. 1, 2018. There are no scheduled changes in NCAA Division III and NAIA.

NSR’s national sports directors in baseball, basketball, football, ice hockey, soccer, softball, track and volleyball held hour-long breakout sessions to keep scouts updated on their sports.

Scouts from the Northeast, Southeast, Central and West regions gathered for regional breakout sessions to discuss the latest happenings in their respective parts of the country.

Robert Cagle, National Director of Scouting, reviewed NSR’s new code of ethics policy that each scout was required to sign.

The national meeting was not all work and no play. Scouts enjoyed an evening of golf and games at a local golf and entertainment facility. Another group traveled to nearby Arlington to watch a Texas Rangers game. Others gathered for meals throughout the week to bond, catch up and kick back.

Cagle repeatedly tried to inspire the group with his daily anecdotes, messages and quotes.

“We need people in our lives who raise our standards and challenge us to be the best we can be,” he told the group. “That’s what you all do for me.”

National Scouting Report scouts are back on the ground this week after returning from last week’s national meeting in Allen, Texas.
