Not bad, I thought, and spot on in recruiting.

Our job at National Scouting Report is to create opportunities that never would be available to prospects without our longstanding connections and reputation with college coaches. Thirty-six years to be exact.

But what if you don’t have a personal NSR scout contacting college coaches and a proven company distributing promotional material for you?

When a coach steps up and shows interest in you, you can’t afford to waste that window of opportunity. Let is slip by and — poof — it’s gone.

Coaches are only patient to a certain extent. They understand the busy lives of families, but they will not be trifled with or ignored to the point of disrespect.

Moreover, they will spread the word to other coaches and programs.

Ignore a phone call, email or text and you may be risking a scholarship offer. That’s real stuff, real money, real opportunity.

“But I don’t want to go out of state!” you might say. Not so fast. That out-of-state school may be your perfect fit. The coach may turn out to be your mentor for life and open doors for years to come.

Because a coach opens a door for you does not mean you are required to walk in and stay for four years. But even basic good sense, not to mention manners, should tell you to see what’s behind the door. Maybe there’s nothing of real interest waiting for you. However, maybe what’s there will change your life.

Explore all your options. There’s no harm in that. Besides, the more information you can gather during the recruiting process, the better decision you will make in the end.

What’s your opinion? We’d love to know!

“Opportunities multiply as they are seized; they die when ignored.” Believe it or not, that sage advice was from a fortune cookie I recently opened.
