She also led her freshman-laden Centennial High School team to a state championship.<\/p>\n<p>Parra, a 5-foot-7 pitcher, posted a 15-2 record with a 1.88 ERA and 112 strikeouts in 115.2 innings. Offensively, she produced a .551 batting average with nine home runs, 40 RBIs and a 1.025 slugging percentage,\u00a0leading the Hawks (26-6) of Las Cruces to the Class 5A state title.<\/p>\n<p>Parra, who also boasts a 3.7 GPA, signed with\u00a0the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.goroughriders.com\/softball\/\" target=\"_blank\">Yavapai Community College<\/a> in Prescott, Ariz. The Roughriders (50-17) captured fourth place in the recent National Junior College Athletic Association Softball World Series.<\/p>\n<p>NSR area director <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nsr-inc.com\/college-scouts\/81\/ryan-johnston\" target=\"_blank\">Ryan Johnston<\/a> couldn&#8217;t heap enough praise upon his prized pitcher.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The ultimate package of hitting and pitching,&#8221; he wrote in his NSR scouting report. &#8220;Great attitude and passion for the game. Very coachable and a natural leader. This girl has the will and drive to be the best!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Softball has become more than a game to Parra.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ever since I started playing tee ball with an all-boys team, I fell in love with the sport of softball,&#8221; Parra wrote in her personal message to college coaches. &#8220;The sport I fell in love with has now become my life. The countless hours of pitching practice, conditioning, and batting practice have helped me to become the player I am today.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am always striving to be better. If it is getting more spin on my pitches, or hours of tee work, I will work hard to be better than my best today. This is my dream and this is my passion. My love for softball continues to grow and it has lit a fire in me to be the best I can be. I am truly blessed to be able to play a game I love and compete at the highest levels.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Gatorade selected Parra for her all-around skills and accomplishments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSantana is an extremely talented softball player who throws an assortment of pitches,\u201d Centennial High School coach Alex Maynez said. \u201cAt all times, I have found her to be a loyal, dependable, hard-working and self-motivated player both on and off the field. She has demonstrated that she has what it takes to play at the next level.
