So thankful to have been part of the journey, Meaghan!”

Asked why she chose Gettysburg, Adler told Sydeski that she loved the campus and clicked with head coach Annette Hunt-Sheppard.

In her personal message to college coaches, Adler revealed how softball helped her evolve from a shy youngster to confident high school senior.

“Because of the support from my teammates, friends, and family in my abilities I have grown from a shy girl to a confident person on and off the field,” she wrote. “I began playing softball to be like my older cousins who had all played, and because my mom signed me up for little league every year. But I am so grateful for her signing me up because what was originally just an activity became a huge part of how I identify myself, as in what kind of a person I am now.”

Adler said she plans to major in biology or microbiology and pursue a career in research science.

“I see myself as a person who is constantly learning, and who applies lessons learned on the field, in the classroom, or in daily life to whatever I do,” she wrote. “In school, for example, I work hard to understand anything that I am taught. It is demonstrated through my detailed note-taking, asking questions, and most importantly relating new knowledge to real situations. By doing this I have figured out that I want to pursue a career in the sciences.”

A 5-foot-10 catcher usually grabs the attention of college softball coaches.
