Ashtin Olin was recruited by several NCAA Division I schools on the West Coast.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

NCAA Division I volleyball coaches clamor after tall, talented setters such as Ashtin Olin<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 5-foot-11 scholar-athlete from\u00a0Chiawana High School<\/a> in\u00a0Pasco, Wash.,\u00a0won’t graduate from high school until 2017, but she already has been recruited by numerous D-I schools on the West Coast. Last week, Olin committed to Sacramento State<\/a> of the Big Sky Conference<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The thing that first strikes you about Olin is not that she is a superb volleyball player, but that she seems to be such a happy kid. Perhaps that’s why she was selected her high school team’s Most Inspiring Player. She also was voted team captain.<\/p>\n

National Scouting Report volleyball director Kari Chavez<\/a>, a former Division I player and coach, discovered Olin. She gushes about Olin’s versatility in her scouting report to college coaches.<\/p>\n

“Ashtin\u00a0is a very agile setter with great hands and great knowledge of the game,” Chavez wrote. “Her mom is a former D-I player and currently a college coach, so Ashtin has grown up understanding the game and the commitment it takes to reach the next level. She is a very versatile player having\u00a0played every position possible. She runs a 5-1 offense in school while running a 6-2 offense in club because she is a great right-side hitter. She is a smart blocker, a good defender, and is continually working on her jump setting and reading the blockers, so she can set her hitters up for 1 on 1 hitting. She is a very determined young lady that will be a great asset to any college team.”<\/p>\n

A first-team All-Mid-Columbia Conference selection last fall, Olin also has been a hit in the classroom. She sports a 3.8 GPA\u00a0and is ranked in the top 10 percent of her class.<\/p>\n

In her personal message to college coaches, you can sense Olin’s enthusiasm for volleyball.<\/p>\n

“I feel comfortable leading my team and I know it takes hard work to be the best,” Olin wrote. “I am competitive, I love to win, I am a leader, encourager, a good teammate, coachable, and determined. I love volleyball because of the competition, teamwork, and how you need to be physically and mentally tough.<\/p>\n

“I also love to be challenged. When in a competitive environment, it helps me to elevate my game even more and pushes me to be the best I can be. I want to play volleyball at a high and competitive level in college and just enjoy doing what I love. I am getting better all the time and I am very excited for my future and can\u2019t wait to see what it has in store for me.”<\/p>\n
