{"id":1044,"date":"2010-08-26T07:08:50","date_gmt":"2010-08-26T13:08:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.nsr-inc.com\/\/?p=1044"},"modified":"2017-04-18T14:31:28","modified_gmt":"2017-04-18T19:31:28","slug":"legendary-coach-ron-polk-is-nsr-keynote-speaker","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsr-inc.com\/scouting-news\/legendary-coach-ron-polk-is-nsr-keynote-speaker\/","title":{"rendered":"Legendary Coach Ron Polk Is NSR Keynote Speaker"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mceTemp\"><strong><em>Scouts Asked to Look Closely at Prospects<\/em><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>Legendary Mississippi State baseball coach <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ron_Polk\">Ron Polk<\/a>, the winningest coach in the history of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.secsports.com\/\">Southeastern Conference<\/a>, gave the keynote addresss to NSR&#8217;s licensees and scouts at the 2010 NSR National Meeting held in\u00a0Birmingham, AL.\u00a0\u00a0Faced with a room full of attendees, Coach Polk\u00a0treated the group with a myriad of stories and recruiting lessons learned in a Hall of Fame career.<\/p>\n<p>After taking a number of digs at <strong>NSR&#8217;s Robert Cagle<\/strong>, a former <a href=\"http:\/\/www.olemiss.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ole Miss<\/a> football player who introduced him, Coach Polk spoke for an hour on the importance of identifying prospects who not only have the ability to play college athletics, but to home in on those who have good grades and character.\u00a0\u00a0 Talking about parents, Coach Polk emphasized that once a program begins recruiting a prospect that parents should allow the coach and recruit to develop a relationship.\u00a0 He also\u00a0recounted various stories from his illustrious career tying his cojent points to NSR&#8217;s mission of identifying and promoting qualified high school student-athletes to college athletic programs nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>Coach Polk&#8217;s\u00a0message, mixing heart felt tales with humor\u00a0rang\u00a0true with NSR scouts which had gathered in Birmingham, AL.\u00a0 Following his speech, Coach Polk took time to sign his most recent book for every scout.<\/p>\n<p>In July 2009, Coach Polk was inducted into the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.collegebaseballfoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">College Baseball Hall of Fame<\/a> in 2009 and the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.abca.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame<\/a> in 1995.\u00a0\u00a0He retired from Mississippi State in 2008\u00a0after his 29th season there leaving him\u00a0seventh all-time in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncaa.org\" target=\"_blank\">NCAA<\/a> career head coaching wins.
