National Scouting Report’s Vitality Prospects can be picked out instantly from any team.

What are they?  Thought you’d never ask.

First, let’s start with this truth: NSR has a huge advantage over other scouting organizations, especially the ones that set up call centers, buy rosters and tell their “scouts” to call as many kids as they can in an eight-hour period.

NSR scouts actually see athletes play in person. Isn’t that a novel concept — a scouting organization that actually scouts?

We’ve been sitting in gyms, by tennis courts, on bleachers and on top of press boxes for — count ’em — 36 years to scout and evaluate high school prospects. And we are always on the lookout for Vitality Prospects.

Vitality Prospects are athletes who bring something special to a team — energy, tempo, attitude, personality, work ethic. Yes, they come in different packages, but recognizable all the same.

Is there a common thread?  Yes, they inhale coaching. They want to learn, improve and learn about new ways they can help their team perform at a higher level and win more by absorbing the details of their position. Finally, they have an unwavering faith in themselves.

When NSR scouts see Vitality Prospects, they can’t help but home in on them because if a college coach were there, he or she would be doing the same.  What NSR scouts do on the front end of their scouting and selection process is exactly what coaches do initially — recognize and evaluate.

How can “scouts” from other recruiting organizations do that from a call center? They can’t.

A scout has to watch an athlete play, interact with teammates and coaches, and respond to the ups and downs of a game. That is what a real scout does.

Vitality Prospects are the athletes we look for at NSR. They carry teams on their shoulders, lift them up when they are down; spur them forward when behind; and give them a boost with their own performances. They dive for loose balls or errant shots; run full steam when everyone else begins to slack off; push through fatigue to find another gear; or gather the troops and inspire them to reach beyond themselves for the good of the team.

The next time you see a Vitality Prospect, think about NSR. Then think: This is a college prospect.

If you know an athlete who fits the Vitality Prospect profile, please have him/her submit a scouting request form.
