Larry Perrin hasn’t slept much in recent weeks. In fact, he hasn’t had much shuteye in months.

He has too much on his mind.

With National Signing Day just two days away, National Scouting Report’s Director of Football Scouting has been working almost round the clock trying to uncover scholarship opportunities for 2016 prospects.

Larry Perrin, National Director of Football for NSR, won't sleep much until after National Signing Day.
Larry Perrin, National Director of Football for NSR, won’t sleep much until after National Signing Day.

“I work 20-hour days this time of year,” said Perrin, a resident of Blytheville, Ark. “I can’t sleep. My mind doesn’t shut off. I’m constantly thinking of options and opportunities for our [NSR prospects] and trying to get them placed. I’m always looking to open a door for one of our athletes.”

Wednesday marks the first day of the NCAA signing period for football, soccer and men’s water polo. High school seniors in those sports can begin signing National Letters of Intent, binding them to a university for one academic year.

NSR works year round to promote qualified prospects in all high school sports to college coaches. More than 95 percent of those high school student-athletes receive scholarship offers.

Dozens of NSR football prospects are expected to sign on National Signing Day. Most of the others will be signing in the next couple months.

“If I don’t get 100 percent [of our prospects] some kind of offer, then we’ve failed,” Perrin said. “That is our goal — nothing less.”

Perrin has spent the last few months speaking to hundreds of college coaches. He recently attended the American Football Coaches Association Convention in San Antonio, where he met face-to-face with many of them. He also has visited numerous college campuses to meet with them.

“I’m working directly with college staffs, trying to fill holes and needs that they have,” Perrin said. “I will find players who meet their needs.”

NSR prides itself on qualifying each athlete individually – scouting them, interviewing them and enrolling them — and working only with those whom its on-the-ground scouts think can compete at the college level.

“We don’t determine what level an athlete will play at,” Perrin said. “We leave that up to the college coaches.”

Enrolling only qualified prospects is key, Perrin said.

“College coaches know our prospects are qualified,” he said. “That’s what separates NSR from other recruiting organizations. All of our [prospects] might not sign or play college football, but if we get them offers, we’ve done our job.”

Then Perrin finally can get some sleep.

“I’ll get my sleep later on,” he said.
