Joe Pound
Area director Joe Pound joined NSR to impact the lives of more young athletes in Northeast Florida.

The story is both familiar and unique: a lifetime of involvement with athletics turns into a passion fulfilled through helping youngsters realize their dreams of becoming college student-athletes.

Joe Pound is the Northeast Florida area director for National Scouting Report. A former college baseball player at the University of North Florida, Pound played for legendary coach Dusty Rhodes.

Pound quickly discovered that working as an NSR scout fits him perfectly.

Having been involved in youth sports for a number of years, Pound wanted to do more — not just for the athletes in his club, but also for those in other sports.  Knowing that Jacksonville is a hotbed for college recruiting, Pound decided to see if he could help high school athletes and college coaches.

“I was running a travel baseball organization and was researching opportunities to get involved in assisting them with the recruiting process,” Pound said. “I found NSR on the Internet and, after researching several organizations, I decided NSR was the best opportunity to do that.”

Since returning from his week-long NSR training in Birmingham, Ala., Pound has been pounding the pavement in Northeast Florida.

Asked what he likes most about the new job, he responded: “Helping these kids realize their dreams.  I know how important it is to them and, without assistance, most high school athletes really don’t stand a chance. With me and NSR behind them, there is a high probability they will get noticed, evaluated and offered by one or more schools.”

  1. Joe,
What a pleasant surprise to meet you in Jax this weekend. You could have knocked me over with a feather when you identified yourself
and your family. I’m writing to you, now, to give the pertinent info on my son and his daughter you saw pitch this weekend. He lives in Thomasville, Ga., and his daughter attends Central High School, where her mother is a teacher. She’s going into her sophomore year and has pitched for only this past year. She did so after being promoted to the varsity. She ‘s played in two individual programs in the off seasons and I’m trying to get her to some of the college activities offered in the summer. I.d also want to put you in touch with the individual whose is responsible for developing the talent of girls coming into the school. My e-mail address is bdoughty@caironet.com.
