Want to be scouted for college coaches this summer?

You have three choices:

  1. Show up at a tournament or showcase and hope to be discovered.
  1. Email all of the coaches whom you hope will scout that tournament or showcase.
  1. Contact a local National Scouting Report representative.

Option 1 likely won’t do you much good. If you’re not a coach’s recruiting list before the tournament or showcase, your odds of being discovered are slim and none.

Do you think college coaches travel from field to field and venue to venue trying to discover talent? Think again. Coaches don’t have the time to do that. And what are the odds that you will hit a home run or make a shoestring catch to grab their attention when they happen to be at your field?

Coaches know exactly whom they will be scouting before a tournament or showcase. They know for what team a prospect plays; on what field he or she will be playing; the time of the game; and the prospect’s jersey number. That way, coaches can go to an event and watch everyone on their recruiting lists.

Option 2 is better than Option 1. However, there are several pitfalls with one, too.

For one thing, it takes time – lots of time – to email every coach whom you hope will scout your tournament or showcase. For another, you could be wasting your time. How do you know that coach will open your email? How do you know that coach will show up at the event? How do you know that coach is recruiting your position and class?

Many college prospects spend countless hours, week after week, inviting college coaches to scout them during the summer. Some are successful. Most aren’t. College coaches receive emails from hundreds of prospects each week. What makes you think yours will stand out? Even if it does, how do you know that coach can squeeze you onto his or her recruiting list?

NSR scouts like Brendan Kennedy from Maine scout, enroll and work with prospects from their area.

Option 3 is, by far, your best option. All you need to do is contact a local NSR representative and you are virtually guaranteed to be scouted at your tournament or showcase. NSR, the world’s oldest and largest college recruiting organization, is the only one with on-the-ground scouts — 200 of them. Local NSR representatives not only scout for local college coaches, but also for coaches across the country. If, for some reason, a local NSR representative can’t scout you at your event, he or show will arrange another time to scout you.

If an NSR scout thinks you can play at the college level, your athletic and academic information, scouting report and video can be sent to college coaches of your choice and to others you may not even be thinking about. Hundreds of college coaches come to NSR seeking qualified prospects in all sports. If you fit their needs, you will be recommended to them.
