![]() Local College Scouting Organization reaches $3 million dollar scholarship milestone Providence-- Since opening the doors in July 2002, National Scouting Report of Rhode Island has promoted over one hundred local high school student – athletes to colleges and universities across the country. NSR’s graduating class of 2003, 2004 and 2005 has been committed over $3,000,000.00 in scholarship monies to attend college. These monies range from Academic Achievement Awards, Merit-Based College Grants, Athletic Scholarships or a combination of all three. NSR virtually brings college coaches into the homes of our local high school student athletes. NSR ask our high school student athletes to select 50 colleges per year of their choice based on their academic and geographical criteria. NSR then sends out a four page brochure of the student- athletes athletic photo, extracurricular activities, strong qualities character references, academic profile, athletic accomplishments, honors, personal statistics and high school coaches evaluation. With NCAA rules and regulations limiting the college coach’s evaluation times, NSR has a web-based platform whereby any college coach can go online and view the evaluation videos of any NSR prospect. These videos include personal introduction of the student – athlete, skills footage, coach’s evaluation and game footage. Locally, NSR wants to promote the cream of the crop high school student-athletes. These students who have made All State, All Division teams and have a strong academic record are the kids that qualify for the NSR program. July 1, 2005 is when a college coach can speak to a potential college prospect graduating class of 2006 by telephone once per week National Scouting Report has been featured in Sports Illustrated and on CNN. College Coaches receive NSR packages free of charge. The College Recruiting Process:
This is the most important part of the recruiting process. College coaches want to identify qualified high school student athletes as early as their freshmen year in high school.
Once a college coach has identified a potential college prospect usually they will mail out a letter of introduction and college questionnaire. The questionnaire will ask for academic and athletic information. Literally thousand of high school student athletes receive college questionnaires on a weekly basis.
Once a college coach has received the questionnaire back from the high school student athlete the evaluation process begins. Based on your academic and athletic achievements you will be compared to the hundreds of other high school students athletes around the country that have similar or even better academic and athletic achievements then yourself. At this point a college coach will want to see you play. This begins the weeding out process.
A letter of intent will be offered to the most qualified student athlete that the college coach has identified, qualified and evaluated.
