Walsh (Catskill) enjoyed a productive
senior season playing baseball at Division I North Carolina State and
his efforts did not go unnoticed.
Walsh, a third baseman, was drafted in the 43rd round by the Philadelphia
Phillies in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Walsh
reported to the Phillies' A affiliate in Batavia, New York.
Walsh transfered to NC State this season after playing three seasons
at Division I Radford. He batted .328 for the Wolfpack with 14 doubles,
two triples, five home runs, 39 RBIs and 19 stolen bases in 23 attempts.
Like many Wolfpack players this season, Walsh played his best baseball
the second half of the season. In 29 games from April 6 on, he batted
.387 (41-for-106) with eight doubles, five home runs, 22 RBIs and 10
steals. In seven games in the ACC Tournament, Walsh hit .385 with two
doubles and a homer, scored seven runs and drove in five. He hit safely
in six of the seven games and reached base 17 times.
Leroy Collins
(Hudson) signed a one-year contract with the Edmonton Eskimos of the
Canadien Football League. Collins, a star running back at Division I
Louisville, had been a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Washington
Redskins practice squads.
Blake Hanan
(Shenenedehowa) wasted no time getting comfortable playing for the Division
I Siena College baseball team. Despite being a freshman, Hanan played
in all 57 games at shortstop and batted second in the Siena lineup.
He finished the season hitting .267 with 14 doubles for the MAAC champions.
He also stole 23-of-29 bases and posted a team-high 174 assists.

DiScipio (Christian Brothers
Academy) also had a fine freshman season at Division I Boston College.
DiScipio batted .250 with one double and six RBI. He also ripped an
RBI single in an exhibition game against the Boston Red Sox.
Boston College finished its season with a 29-22 record.
Rob Hosgood
(Shenenedehowa) caught the attention of Major League scouts in his first
season playing baseball at Division I Central Connecticut State.
Hosgood playe in all 52 games and batted .331 with four home runs and
37 RBI. He also stole 20 bases in 21 attempts and had an on-base percentage
of .456.
Chad Holderman
(South Glens Falls) compiled a 3-2 pitching record at Division I Central
Connecticut State this past spring. The freshman lefthander had a 6.00
ERA and struck out 24 and walked 10 in 48 innings pitched.
He recorded victories over Rhode Island, Sacred Heart and Georgetown.
Chris Bennice
(Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake)just completed his first season at Division
I St. John's University. St. Johns University finished its 2000
season with its fifth-straight appearance in the Sweet 16, and its ninth-straight
appearance in the NCAA College Cup. The Red Storm, who are ranked 11th
nationally by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, finish
the season with a 14-5-2 overall record after finishing in second in
the BIG EAST with an 8-2-1 mark.
The Red Storms appearance in the Sweet 16, their fifth-straight,
is tied for the longest current active streak with only one other school
in the country, Indiana. In addition, St. Johns has now appeared
in nine-straight NCAA Tournaments, one of only five schools nationally
to accomplish that feat.
Nick Southworth
(Maple Hill) led Division I University at Albany's soccer team in scoring
this past season with nine goals and four assists.
Southworth also converted on all three of his penalty kicks.
Albany which will join the America East Conference in the Fall of 2001,
finished with an 8-7-3 record.
Still on Soccer, Jason Seymour
(Bethlehem) played 14 games for Division I University at Buffalo last
fall.
Freshman forward Jesse Cort
(Red Hook) was named Northeast 10 Conferences Freshman of the
Week nine times this past season.
Cort averaged 16.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals
in the two-game ECAC Tournament. He scored 13 points and grabbed seven
rebounds against NJIT. He then finished with 20 points, seven boards,
six assists and four steals in the title game versus C.W Post.
Christine Bronder
(Shenenedehowa) just completed her first lacrosse season at Division
I St. Bonaventure.
Bronder's best game occured last in the season when she tallied a goal
and an assist in a 14-3 victory over Canisius. Bronder was a midfield.
Keely Forbes
(Shaker) was impressive in her first season pitching softball at Division
III St. John Fisher.
Forbes, who was recruited by Division I Quinnipiac College out of high
school, compiled a 17-4 record with a 2.09 ERA. She struck out 66 and
walked 40 in 134 innings of work.
St. John Fisher, which is the home of the Buffalo Bills training camp,
finished with a 32-13 record.
Junior Jason Bariteau
(Catholic Central), a guard on The College of Saint Rose men's basketball
team, was named the Northeast-10 weekly honor roll for the period ending
March 4. It was the first weekly honor for Bariteau this season.
Bariteau scored 16 of his game high 18 points in the second half of
a 74-63 loss at 21st ranked UMass Lowell in the quarterfinals of the
NE-10 Championship tournament on February 26. He went six-for-six from
the charity stripe to extend his streak of consecutive free throws to
26 over four games. Bariteau also came away with three steals and shot
62.5 percent (five-for-eight) from the floor.
Bryan Frisbee
(Coxsackie-Athens) finished his second season playing baseball at Division
I Lemoyne.
Frisbee batted .200 with five runs scored. He also compiled a perfect
.1000 fielding percentage - recording 17 putouts and one assist.
Lemoyne finished at 29-20 including a 12-7 victory over nationally-ranked
North Carolina.
Shawn Powers
(Colonie) just completed his second season playing lacrosse at Division
I Hobart College.
Hobart finished its season with a 5-1 league record - second only to
unbeaten Bucknell.
Kristen Purcell
(South Glens Falls) shined in her first season playing basketball at
Division III Norwich University.
Purcell averaged 6.9 points and 5.6 rebounds per game this past season.
Her .543 shooting percentage from the field was best on the team.
Norwich finished its season with a 17-9 record.
Vicki Camaj
(Shenenedehowa) and Becky Conroy (Shaker) were both solid contributors
as freshmen on the Division II College of St. Rose softball team
Camaj hit over .300 during the second half of the season and Conroy
shined at second base.
