NSR prides itself on having scouts on the ground across the country and around the world, checking out our prospects firsthand and making sure they are the quality athletes that we are proud to represent. Matt Rand has serviced the needs of his own marketing company for over 20 years. Having built two successful companies and moved on, he has taken the lessons of good communication, accuracy, and long lasting business and personal relationships to the management of the National Scouting Report of San Diego County. As a representative of and for the student-athletes enrolled in NSR of San Diego County, he has successfully engaged dozens of recruiting coaches and helped them to identify and evaluate San Diego athletes. The result has been dozens of scholarships offered to deserving student-athletes from the San Diego Region.
Matt's personal experience with his daughter helped him realize how much families would benefit, not only from the financial support a scholarship provides, but the need families have to understand the process and participate in it effectively. Ashlie Rand, Matt's daughter in-law, was an All American playing softball for the University of Massachusetts and who then transferred back to California to play for Cal State Northridge. She participated in two Regional World Series Championships. She was a two-time invitee to the USA Olympic Team try outs. Matt deeply appreciates the difficulties inherent in recruiting, creating options and making sound decisions. David Batzer comes to NSR with a unique background that combines 13 plus years hands on experience in collegiate athletics. David moved to San Diego from the Boston area in 2004 to join the rest of his family including his 80 year old mother, two brothers, two sisters in law and four nieces and nephews in Americas Finest City. A lifelong Red Sox and Patriots fan, he has quickly adopted the Padres and Chargers as his new hometown teams. David lettered in both baseball and swimming at Framingham North High School in Framingham, MA. He played intramurals and assisted the Intramurals Director at Bryant College in Smithfield RI. He was hired as the Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at Mass Bay Community College in 1991 and was later named Associate Head Coach before becoming Head Coach in 2001. His combined record at Mass Bay was 190-151 including appearances at four national championship tournaments and winning one regional championship. He also spent 10 plus years broadcasting high school basketball on local cable television. He has worked with and advised athletes at every level of college athletics from junior college to Division I. He knows from experience what it takes for a true student-athlete to achieve their dreams and goals. He looks forward to working with the staff at NSR to continue making dreams come true for qualified student athletes seeking scholarships to improve their lives and the lives of their families.
