Rick Kaufman
Area Director
About your Area Director

Rick Kaufman has been active in the Southern California athletic community for the past several decades as an athlete, coach, and avid supporter of youth athletics.

In 1982 he moved from Northern California to Southern California to accept an athletic scholarship in Track and Field at Cal State University Northridge (CSUN). During his tenure at CSUN he received awards for his achievement at the Conference Championships in the Javelin and Discus. In addition to his Conference Championship awards Rick was an NCAA Qualifier and All-American for the two years he competed at Northridge. Subsequently he attempted to qualify for the Olympic trials to make the 1992 Olympic Team, but missed qualification due to injuries that ultimately ended his throwing career. However he never lost his passion for sports or his drive to provide guidance and mentorship to other young athletes.

After graduating from CSUN with a degree in Business Rick moved to Stevenson Ranch and began coaching at College of The Canyons. He has coached for over 10 years helping guide and place athletes at colleges across the country in their pursuits for athletic competition and a college education. Rick’s passion comes from the care and guidance he himself received from his mentors during his college days, and has been so impacted by his experiences and relationships that he is driven to give back, not only to the throwing events of Track and Field, but to young athletes in their quest for advanced educations and competitive collegiate athletics. As a former NCAA qualifier himself and now a coach, Rick feels committed to providing the same support that molded, and shaped him during his years as a student athlete. He also brings to the table an understanding of the process from both sides; as an athlete, as well as a coach.

Rick has been married for over 19 years and has two young children that he and his wife recently adopted from Russia. Now as a new father of five- and nine-year-old boys, he has an even deeper appreciation as a parent for the benefits that athletic involvement and strong education can provide to his children. His life experiences as an athlete, coach and mentor, husband, and now father, combined with his sincere passion to support and guide student athletes with integrity and respect provides a strong foundation for his work with young athletes and their parents. Rick has a gift for building long-lasting relationships with coaches across the country, and has a knack for spotting talent. He looks forward to working with your qualified athlete to help garner the exposure necessary to maximize your choices as you and your student athlete explore your options throughout this country’s collegiate institutions. Thank you for visiting. It is our privilege and honor to take this journey with you. We look forward to a long and lasting relationship as we work with you to provide quality education and athletic experience for you and your student-athlete.

Tom Threw
Area Scout

Thomas Threw has been involved and highly successful with many different sports since a youth in upstate N.Y. I’ve been in the Santa Clarita community since 1991 as a coach or manager of youth athletics.

As a youth I worked at a summer camp instructing how to be successful at many different sports. Some of the instruction was Canoeing, Water Skiing, Archery, Basketball, Volleyball, Baseball, Soccer, Swimming, Fishing, Track & Field, Tennis and more. I was known as my towns’ he can do anything athletically well. My best sport has been baseball until in 1981 which is when I traumatically injured my knees at work at the age of 17. During that time I spent numerous hours understanding how the mechanics of our bodies should work. After 4 years surgery and rehabilitation I decided to move somewhere where it’s not humid, or cold.

I have volunteered for the past 12 years my knowledge and love of sports to the youth in my community. I have owned a carpet cleaning business since 1991. Winning is not the most important results to me, proper mechanics and knowledge in how to play a sport is.

I have been with my wife since 1987 and married in 1991. We have two children a daughter who is doing level 7 in gymnastics at the age of 12. A son 14 who is a freshman playing in the baseball program at Saugus High School. My children have chosen to play these sports, and they tried a lot of them. I support them as much as I can with providing them as many opportunities as I could. They can succeed on their own with my knowledge and help. The most important attitude is that they want to do it. I’m part of the Saugus High baseball staff right now which keeps me involved doing what I love the most.

It’s a privilege and an honor to take any video necessary to help you compete with other athletes at any collegiate level. I look forward in meeting you.
