Background
John has played, coached and worked in sports for the past 20 years. John began playing baseball competitively at an early age and continued to improve as an athlete, earning All-League and All-American honors in baseball his senior year at Thomas Downey High School in Modesto, California. He continued to play baseball in Junior College and ended his career playing professionally in the Independent League. After his playing career was over, he coached one year of high school varsity baseball in Modesto and then became a private hitting instructor. 

John earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communications with a minor in Sports Management from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1999. In 2003 he received a Masters degree in Sports Management from the University of Pacific in Stockton, California. 

John currently works for the Sacramento Kings and Maloof Sports & Entertainment. Over the past four years he has worked for several other professional sports teams including the San Francisco 49ers, the Sacramento River Cats (AAA Oakland A’s), and the Stockton Ports (Single-A Oakland A’s). As the Sacramento region scout, John brings his experience as a player and a coach along with his expertise in sports from high school to the pros.

Nyas Cooks has over twenty-five years of experience with sports, either by playing, coaching kids, or just being a spectator for his favorite sport teams. He has a true passion for the sports industry, becoming an Area Scout; is fulfilling a dream of his by being involved at a high level of national recruiting. His desire to help others is one of his most noticeable characteristics.

For seven years he owned and operated a personal training business helping others reach their goals. Certified through a well-known institute for personal training (National Academy of Sports Medicine - NASM), equipped him with the education and knowledge of helping clients with all fitness and rehabilitation needs. He is also a Certified Fitness Nutritionist.

He wants student-athletes to understand the importance of education, and a college degree is the most important goal to accomplish. With high academics scores combined with their athletic achievements, he will be able to help student-athletes gain athletic scholarships that may not have been available due to the lack of exposure.

Nyas wants to help student-athletes gain recognition by college coaches, allowing them opportunity to perform at a collegiate level. Knowing that so many colleges overlook a lot of talented athletes that have limited exposure, there is a need to help student-athletes get recognition and scholarships they deserve.
